Public and private schools are set benefit from a financial management training workshop that is being organised by a group of chartered accounts and Government to help curb abuse and mismanagement of school funds.

The workshop – which will be held at the behest of Cardinal Chartered Accountants and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education – targets headmasters, bursars, treasurers and School Development Association (SDA) chairpersons.

Cardinal Chartered Accountants spokesperson Ms Fadzai Ndudzo said the training is meant to close the gap that is apparent in schools.

“As an audit firm, we have observed through the external audits that we have conducted for some Government schools that there is a gap in the above-mentioned field, and we believe these training programmes will add value to schools,” she said.

The training programme, she added, will cover issues ranging from financial management, corporate governance, financial controls, fraud detection and control, taxation laws applicable to schools, the role of SDA committes in schools, project financing and general administration, among other skills.
