Champion peace

The Sunday Mail

Brian Ngosi

There is a lot of conflict and animosity around the world.

In some parts of the world, peace has not been enduring.

Some war-torn countries have been reduced to shells despite being endowed with natural resources.

Communities continue to struggle in harnessing their full potential due to deep-rooted misunderstandings.

Even at a personal level, some individuals suffer because of a lack of inner peace.

Commitment to lasting peace is the first step to real development.

But, sadly one may even find conflict within institutions, like church, that should contribute to strengthening the social fabric.

Even at the family unit, people are at loggerheads.

Sustainable peace for everyone remains a fantasy.

Ask yourself this question: Are you not contributing to a conflict?

Some people are bent on spreading hate speech.

Do you feast from the animosity amongst your kinsmen?

Do you turn a blind eye when you could have helped unite warring parties?

Are you not the kind of person that goes behind people’s backs to fuel animosity?

Are you not the kind of person who blows things out of proportion, to start a fight?

Does it ever occur to you that you focus on the wrongs someone would have done?

Learn to let go of trivial issues.

There is wisdom in correcting a wrong in a peaceful way.

Be the kind of a person who is always seeking to bring peace.

Do people avoid you because you fuel fights?

There is no way you can have inner peace if the world around you is a battlefield.

Make deliberate attempts to proffer peaceful solutions in any situation.

Peace begins with you.

Do not wait for the next person to champion peace.

There is no situation where peace is trivial.

No argument is worth degenerating into a fight.

Diversity should be celebrated.

Society would miss out if everyone saw things from the same viewpoint.

Even if the other person is wrong, you cannot show them the light in a peaceful way.

If it is a contest, allow the next person to win in peace.

Lose gracefully.

Societies that have endured conflict have never been the same.

Contribute to peace processes, and watch your society achieve its full potential.

Sustainable peace is a gift that society gets from its citizens.

In a conflict, the parties involved should proffer solutions for peace.

Always value your role and place in the peace process.

Peace is not about winning or losing.

Your contribution is vital at every level to build peaceful societies.
