The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ) is offering cervical and breast cancer screening at subsidised prices in Harare under a promotion that will run throughout this month.

The promotion seeks to provide affordable cervical and breast cancer screening.

CAZ general manager Mrs Junior Mavu said the association was offering screening services at reduced prices to ensure that women of limited means can afford the service.

“Cervical cancer prevention week is commemorated in January, but January is one of the busiest months of the year,” she said.

“So the promotion is done every May when women are less busy.

“During May, screen for both cervical and breast cancers is US$5 compared to the US$10 that we charge for one screening during the other months.

“The promotion is meant to encourage women from across the board to get screened.”

CAZ is offering screening services at their office located at 60 Livingstone Avenue in central Harare.

She said cervical and breast cancer are the most common cancers among women.

“If detected early most cancers are treatable. So we are urging women to take advantage of the promotion.

“In council clinics, the services are offered for free. So women in other parts of the country can also go to these clinics.

“We also educate women on the causes of cervical and breast cancer and what they need to do to help detect the cancer early.”

Cervical Cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting Zimbabweans.

In Zimbabwe, 7 659 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2017, an increase of nearly 400 from 7 265 recorded in 2016, according to data from the Zimbabwe National Cancer Registry (ZNCR).
