Castle Lager PSL drama: Coaches in their own words Norman Mapeza

The Sunday Mail

THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League drama continues this afternoon, with some engaging fixtures. Here is what some coaches, whose teams are in action today, had to say . . .

Luke Masomere, How Mine

“This is the biggest game in Bulawayo, a fierce derby and my wish is that the referees will be equal to the task. I hope they will not try to control crowd trouble by denying How Mine a fair chance. The result that comes out should be respected, whether How Mine win or Highlanders get the better of us. The officials should not be under pressure because they do not belong to any team.”

Mark Harrison, Caps United

“The recent developments at the club have been getting the better of the players, they were becoming over exuberant, over excited and I had to talk to them on Thursday about the need to keep our cool. We are expecting a hard-fought battle against Flame Lily, who I am sure will be more physical and direct. They have a new coach and I am sure their players would want to impress the new boss in charge.”

Joseph Takaringofa, Buffaloes

“Pitting my wits against Lloyd Mutasa should be very interesting because we are long-time friends. We were teammates at both Tanganda and Dynamos back then and I respect him. But this is about our jobs; we will shelve our friendship for those 90 minutes because I want to win and he also wants to safeguard his job at Whawha.”

Lloyd Mutasa, Whawha

“Shabba (Takaringofa) is an old friend. Both Whawha and Buffaloes are in the murky waters and this one promises to be a thriller. It is high time we started picking up points away from home if we are serious about fighting our way from the muddy waters.”

Kelvin Kaindu, Triangle

“Tsholotsho are a very unpredictable side; sometimes they pick up a point when they are least expected to, like they did against Dynamos recently. We have to treat them with caution, give them the respect they deserve, but all the same we need to pick up points at home so that we hang on in the top four.”

Lizwe Sweswe, Tsholotsho

“We haven’t been doing well. Failing to win in our past seven matches is not a good record, but we have prepared thoroughly for this test at Gibbo. The boys are ready to put up a fight in Triangle.”

Nation Dube, Hwange

“The log is not looking well for us, we are nearer to the bottom and we need to win this game against FC Platinum. My guys have been performing well of late and the fact that FC Platinum beat us 1-0 at the Colliery last season does not come into play because this is a different ball game.”

Norman Mapeza, FC Platinum

“We are enjoying good form at the moment and need to maintain that momentum by getting a positive result in Hwange.

“Hwange will try as much as possible to utilise home advantage, but my boys are prepared and ready for the fight.”

Today’s fixtures:

Buffaloes v Whawha (Sakubva), Dongo Sawmill v Harare City (Vengere), Hwange v FC Platinum (Colliery), Triangle v Tsholotsho FC (Gibbo), Caps United v Flame Lily (NSS), Highlanders v How Mine (Babourfields).
