CAPS UNITED president Farai Jere says the club’s faithful have every right to expect the league title and some easy on the eye football this year.
Makepekepe have flexed muscles and done some tidy piece of transfer market business that has their fans dreaming of ending a decade long wait for the biggest gong in local game.
This off season has seen Dennis Dauda, Allan Gahadzikwa, Edmore Sibanda, Devon Chafa, Cabby Kamhapa, Ronald Pfumbidzai and Abbas Amidu coming aboard.
A deal with Tafadzwa Rusike is expected to be finalised today.
Jere is aware of the pressure that the way his team have gone about business brings to the Makepekepe club house as well as how it makes the team’s rivals green with envy.
“We are not cowards,” he said.
“We know our fans expect nothing short of the league title and our message is simple ‘yes we know you want it and we are doing our best to deliver it’.
“As a club we have nowhere to run, we have brought in the players and restructured our administration, all in a bid to ensure that we are kings of Zimbabwean football once again.
“Yes we are aware that other teams such as Dynamos , our fiercest rivals, Chicken Inn, FC Platinum and Highlanders will also have their own title ambitions but look we have said this is going to be our year and the way we have signed players speaks of that desire.”
As they strive to give their Class of 2015 the conducive environment needed to conquer the Caps United executive has also taken interest in getting to understand their players better.
“That Caps United is in a much better shape that it was this time last year is not in doubt but we are not naïve, we know that what happens at a player’s home has a bearing on what he gives us on the pitch,” said Jere.
“With that in mind we have tasked board member Willard Manyengavana with visiting each player and get to understand how they are living.
“We need to have a database that tells us where our boy stays and the number of people he is taking care of…and you know Willard is a master when it comes to player management and stuff.”
While Manyengavana has an eye on the present another board member Cuthbert Chitima is being tasked with finding the next generation of Makepekepe players.
And it is at Northern Region Division One side Gunners that the future of Caps United will be on show with the first graduates expected to start donning the famous green shirt in two years.
Meanwhile, Makepekepe gaffer Lloyd Chitembwe has disclosed that Rusike’s deal will be the club’s last piece of business.
“We are almost done with the signings, Abbas (Amidu) is here, we have also sealed Devon Chafa and tomorrow (today) we will be finalising talks with Tafadzwa Rusike.
“Everything is moving in the right direction, we have had a 100 percent turnout of players save for those who were in the Chan squad and we are looking forward to a brighter season.
“But the demands are the same, we cannot talk of the title before we win games, we will have to try and win as many games as possible to achieve the ultimate goal which is the championship,” he said.
