YOUNG WARRIORS coach Kallisto Pasuwa is operating without a contract and is coy about taking up the Warriors job, we have established.
While the Zifa propaganda machinery has been trying to paint a picture of a Pasuwa who keen on taking over the job, The Sunday Mail understands that the former Dynamos coach has serious reservations. Official sources disclosed that Pasuwa met the association’s technical director, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, on Friday with the hope of discussing a contract for either the Warriors or the Young Warriors post.
But he was told to put that on the back burner with modalities of preparing for the Cosafa Cup, the Young Warriors’ African Championship qualifier away to Swaziland and the Warriors Afcon qualifiers topping the agenda.
“Pasuwa does not have a contract as the Under-23 coach. All he has is a letter of appointment that does not spell out any conditions of service. It is in light of this that he is not keen on accepting the Warriors offer without a contract being tabled.
“He expected the issue of the contract to dominate discussions during Friday’s meeting but instead Jongwe told him to prepare for the Cosafa Cup, the Young Warriors’ African Championships qualifiers as well as the senior national team’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” said a Zifa official.
Pasuwa would not be drawn into discussing the Warriors job yesterday.
“My mandate is with the Under-23s so I will prepare them for the upcoming African Championships qualifier as well as the Cosafa Cup. However, I have been given leeway to include players who are over 23 for the Cosafa Cup.
“With regards the Afcon qualifiers, I think you are better off talking to the association,” said Pasuwa.
Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said the mother body will make an official announcement on national assignments this week.
“We have three important assignments coming up almost at the same time and as Zimbabwe we will want to do well. The association is currently seized on the modalities that among other things include the personnel that will take charge of each particular assignment and camping dates. Our promise is that we will make the appropriate announcements this coming week,” he said.
