AFTER a nightmarish start to the season, Dynamos look like they are turning the corner with Lloyd Mutasa describing yesterday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League victory over Nichrut at Rufaro as a reflection of what is happening at the training ground.
Mutasa sat on the bench for the first time after dramatically bouncing back into the hottest seat in local football and watched in delight as DeMbare won their second match on the bounce.
Two quick-fire goals from Blessing Moyo and Kuda Kumwala at the end of the first half delivered victory for Dynamos.
Nichrut pulled one back late on through Andrew Kanchwachwa but the home side held on for their fifth win of the season.
Mutasa described the victory as a sign that his team should not be written off just as yet.
“What we really wanted today was to try and get three points so that we have an element of consistency considering that we picked up three points from last weekend,” he said.
“Obviously, when you are away and you come back and get a positive result, it’s what every coach would envy. When we bounced back you could see the spirit within the youngsters, the welcome was there in training and we say probably what happened today is a reflection of what was happening in the training ground.”
The victory took Dynamos’ points tally to 21 and into ninth position on the log and Mutasa is looking forward to the second half of the season with renewed hope.
“We might get one or two players in the mid-season, but we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and our coffers as well.
“We want to look at the 17 games we are going to play and as a coach, winning the remaining matches would make me happy.
“In the position that we are in, we have no control over the championship battle. What we can probably try and do is to be the best team in the country,” said the Dynamos mentor.
DeMbare had the better start but had to wait until the 45th minute to get a deserved lead, with Moyo settling nerves as he headed home a delightful cross from Peace Makaha.
The Blue Army was celebrating again a minute later, this time with Kumwala coolly sweeping home past Nichrut goalie Tafadzwa Jabangwe.
Dynamos went off the boil in the second half.
“Yes, in the second half we took the foot off the pedal and we were hurried but the good thing is we managed to get the win,” conceded Mutasa.
Nichrut coach John Nyikadzino reckoned that his team paid dearly for losing concentration towards the end of the first half.
“We played well but went to sleep in the last five minutes. As a coach, I take full responsibility for the result and we have to go back and fix the mistakes we saw.
“We will take advantage of the two-week break the PSL has given us and we have to bolster the squad. The way we are conceding goals points to a lack of experience and we have to look for experience. We are not in the Premiership to be relegated,” said Nyikadzino.
