AFTER recently losing an important member of my family, I started having a different perspective on life.

A time will come when the body of each and every one of us will be in a coffin, with one’s spirit watching from the sidelines as one’s close relatives and friends mourn.

At that point, every materialistic thing stays on earth. The spirit will not be able to grasp anything.

The tense used in making reference to our lives changes from “is” to “was”, and the only thing that will remain are memories of the time those still alive shared with you — what you did and the impact you had on others during your days.

Now, ask yourself: What would you be remembered for should death knock on your door today?

Let this be a gentle reminder that only you can control what you will be remembered for.

We all know that our lives will be a grand summation of all the days we were on earth. To change the narrative for the better, be intentional with each day and own your life.

The easiest starting point is kindness and loving everyone around you.

When the day comes, you will bear witness as people say different things about you. I cannot imagine how terrible it would feel if no single person has a positive thing to say about you.

Every interaction you have while alive will determine what people will say when the day comes.

Extend an olive branch and help the next person. Go the extra mile to look for ways of brightening up someone else’s day, instead of living a life of selfishness.

We never know how much time we have with the next person, so strive to make them feel loved every day.

Avoid being in conflict with others for you never know the last time you will see them. Make the story of your life captivating.
