The Gilbert Muponda Foundation has repaired and refurbished a borehole in Warren Park 1, Harare, a suburb that has gone several months without a reliable supply of clean water.

Banker Gilbert Muponda is the founder of the foundation.

The borehole broke down last year, and many residents have been resorting to unsafe water sources for relief, or purchasing it from private sector suppliers.

“We are happy and grateful that The Gilbert Muponda Foundation has decided to intervene and solve this challenge which was facing the community,” said a resident, Owen Dhliwayo.

“We were facing the risk of cholera due to lack of clean water in the area.”

Another resident, Pretty Gova, thanked Muponda, who grew up in Warren Park.

“We would like to thank Mr Muponda for giving back to the community through his foundation which has assisted through other initiatives such as setting up community gardens and assisting our youths with free learner drivers’ license lessons to Warren Park youths. The foundation has had a very positive impact on our youths after financing young people who are involved in LP gas (tank) filling projects.”
