BABY OF THE YEAR 2015: The battle of the babies returns

The Sunday Mail

baby competitionYou have been waiting, and you shall wait no more. The Sunday Mail Baby of the Year competition is back!

And as always, it is bigger than ever before.

This year’s The Sunday Mail/Jet Baby of the Year competition starts today and is open to entries until August 29.

For many years The Sunday Mail, being Zimbabwe’s leading family newspaper, has collaborated with various partners to promote family values via numerous platforms. And Jet Stores – with its “I am a Jet Baby” clothing range is part of this as it is the destination of choice for anyone seeking children’s wear.

One of these platforms is the baby competition, which ends with a glitzy prize-giving ceremony on November 28 at Rainbow Towers Gardens in Harare.

Besides promoting of children’s wellness and care, The Sunday Mail is working with Jet Stores to create a competition that all Zimbabweans can look forward to and identify with.

Prizes include Jet clothing vouchers valued at US$500 to first prize winners, US$100 worth of Jet shopping vouchers for each of the 20 finalists, blankets and nappy bags, among other practical awards.

There are two categories, the 0-12 months and the 13-24 months age groups. The girls battle it out on their own for future bragging rights, while the little fellas will slug it out on their own side.

Overall, there will be four first prize winners. Every Jet Store will conduct lucky dips during the course of the competition and to enter, customers need only purchase baby clothing worth US$5 and above, enter their details on receipts provided and drop these in in-store entry boxes.

Winners will be selected through a draw, conducted at 11am every Saturday across the country.

Zimpapers business manager (marketing) Charity Gwata-Chirume said they were expecting more entries than last year.

“I believe this year we will have more people entering since we have lowered the minimum amount customers have to spend to enter the competition,” said Gwata-Chirume.

She thanked ZimPharm for pledging US$3 000 for prizes and other expenses.

“At the moment we have US$9 000 worth of prizes but we are still looking for other sponsors to come on board,” Gwate-Chirume said.

Last year Evana Punungwe, Malakai Makina, Tinoodanana Satande and Prosper Wakatama were the babies that won first prizes.

How to enter and win

This competition is open to Zimbabwean residents and to enter, Jet customers only have to spend US$5 purchasing toddlers’ clothing worth US$4 and buying a US$1 copy of The Sunday Mail. Zimbabwe’s biggest newspaper is available at every Jet store throughout the country.

Alternatively, customers can buy The Sunday Mail from regular newspaper vendors or outlets, cut out the entry form and on submission attach proof of purchase (a receipt) of US$4 from any Jet outlet.

Entrants must be the parent or legal guardian of the baby and will be required to produce identification to this end.

Completed entry forms must be accompanied by a full colour printed photograph of the baby taken within the last two months. Entrants are advised to avoid busy backgrounds but rather use plain backgrounds so that the child is better captured. Competitors can only enter once and entry forms must be submitted by August 29.
