ZIMBABWE’s Tinotenda Matienga’ personal best time achievement in the 200 metres race was the country’s only highlight at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia.

The Championship which concludes today saw Zimbabwe sending only three of its seven qualified athletes due to financial challenges.

Silobela born Enlitha Ncube (800m), Nomatter Kapfudzaruwa of Rushinga (400m) and Prince Edward’s Matienga represented Zimbabwe.

And of the trio, only 16-year-old Matienga did a commendable effort in achieving his personal best time of 21,93 seconds in the 200m sprint.

However, that was not enough to qualify him to the semi-finals which was the same case with his compatriots Ncube and Kapfudzaruwa.

Ncube (16), finished seventh in the 800m race with a time of 2:19:39 minutes, a far cry from her personal best of 2:12:76 minutes.

Seventeen-year-old Kapfudzaruwa finished her 400 metres race in 59,40 seconds to take position five.
