TRENDING with his hit track “Dherira” off his second album “Ngarizhambe”, Andy Muridzo has become the talk of the town and has sent shivers down the spines of many established artistes.

Mai mwana muri avocado, munenge Dherira . . .” he sings in one stanza off this chart-topping track.  Many a music fan has been left wondering what the young artiste meant, not just in the track “Dherira”, but in most of his songs — which by any measure is the hallmark of a great lyricist.

But what is the real meaning of the track seeing that the lady has been likened to an avocado as well as the villain biblical character, Delilah, from the Bible?

“Avocado wakaritarisa riri mumuti it’s a fruit rine shape yakangozvinakirawo so (an avocado is a beautifully shaped fruit). It can be eaten in a variety of ways with some loving it plain fresh from the tree, others like them a bit tangy so they add some salt and the sweet toothed love it with a bit of sugar,” said Andy.

“It is also used in making a variety of skin products and this shows you the abundance of the qualities it has. This song is simply bringing out these qualities in the woman I like, she has many facets to her that make her the ideal one.

“As for the Delilah bit, I know that many who know the biblical Delilah were shocked to hear me liken my lover to her because of what she did to Samson, but I was not really focusing on her character but her body structure and unmatched beauty.

“The reason why Samson lost his way was because he was dazzled by her beauty and all I am doing with this song is metaphorically express the outward beauty of the one I love,” he revealed.

Though the journey might be paying off for the youngster, in his short stint he has also experienced some painful moments.

“The lowest moment of my life was when I was dumped by the person I love most in the music industry. But I never lost hope and I never hated him, I just kept going until I released my album and it was just a walk in the park.”

Asked about the identity of the individual who dumped him, Muridzo said, “I won’t say the name of the person. What I can only say is he had been hoodwinked about me, but when I explained everything that had caused the chaos he understood.”

“The album got into the people so fast and I was accepted by the fans in a way I never expected. Right now I’m raising the flag and I am also back in good books with my number one artiste in Zimbabwe, Jah Prayzah,” he revealed.

Andy Muridzo and Jah Prayzah are set for a massive joint family show before year end. Both artistes confirmed this unexpected but pleasant development saying it was meant to silence those who want to sow seeds of hatred between them forever.

Added Muridzo: “I will always be thankful to him (Jah Prayzah) and no matter how people try to make us enemies, we won’t stop because takabva Uzumba kutsvaga raramo (we left Uzumba to earn a living),” he said.

Muridzo, who will be shutting down a fruitful 2016 in the UK come December 31, also revealed that his greatest musical icon of all time is the late Michael Jackson.

“Andy Muridzo is going to be the African Michael Jackson. Being a versatile artiste, I can sing any genre of music, but I chose contemporary because that is the sound of Zimbabwe. If I were in America, I would have gone for R&B because that is the American sound. I can play every instrument. I can sing with many voices.

“All these qualities blended well will lead me to be Africa’s Michael Jackson. However, in my quest to fulfil my desire, I will not necessarily change my sound but I will produce an album that will resonate with different nationalities and generations.”

Muridzo also revealed to The Sunday Mail Leisure when to expect a new album from him.

“New material comes in March. I had a fast rise, I am even surprised because most local artistes take about four to five albums to get into the spotlight, but it took me only two albums.

“Some people are saying I use juju. But I just thank God for making me a talented human being. I also want to thank my father in the spirit, Prophet Munashe Chikaka of the Baptism of Fire International Ministries. He has been giving me spiritual advice.”
