All about partying today!

The Sunday Mail

Andrew Moyo Leisure Reporter —
THERE are a few special days throughout the year that many people the world over anticipate, let alone plan for. Today, December 25, is one of those days as the country joins the rest of the world in celebrating Christmas Day, the day one of the most popular historical figures, or rather biblical figure, Jesus Christ, was born.

The festive mood has been high these past few days after having been ignited by a well-attended Jah Cure gig at the HICC. Of course cash challenges have in a way been dampening the festive mood but Zimbo’s being what they are, always try to find a way around and make the best of the little they have. Enterprising individuals we have in the country.

A number of Christmas celebration events are expected to have been held last night under the “Christmas Eve” celebrations banner. And the partying is expected to continue today up to the New Year.

From live shows, dramas/theatre, to the DJs mashing it up at various clubs, Christmas countdown parties took over the country’s entertainment scene.

Although most of the activities took place yesterday, there are still many other partying options available today. The range of activities is now limited though since most artistes and organisers have opted to spend this day with their respective families.

Thus those that do not wish to spend the whole day at home still have a healthy number of outing options available for them. And I think we will be safe to say most of the activities will add icing to any of the celebration plans.

In this piece, The Sunday Mail Leisure will try to provide pointers to some of the lined up activities you can enjoy today.

Ster-Kinekor movie gateway
Ster-Kinekor has successfully managed to bring back the cinema culture in the country, with a string of positive changes that have certified its movie houses as the go-to place for movie lovers looking for a good time.

It will not be a bad idea for families and friends to go and enjoy family time watching some of the latest movies on the market over popcorn or any other eateries.

Yes, the place(s) will be open throughout the festive season.

Some of the movies that are showing today include “Office Christmas Party”, “Star Wars: Rogue One”, “Assassin’s Creed” and one of the most anticipated movies of the year for kids “Sing”.

For those who are planning on visiting the Sam Levy’s theatre, there is also going to be a Santa Clause to spice up the day.

Sulu takes Jamboree to Mushandirapamwe
Suluman “Captain Sulu” Chimbetu whose recent release, “Jamboree”, appears to be getting a good reception across board will be playing at Mushandirapamwe hotel in Highfields tonight.

The musician is expected to sample new songs like “Mhasuru”, “Alice Mbewe” and “It’s not Necessary” on the new offing for the first time at his favourite hunting ground after the official launch of the album early this month.

This gig might just be the perfect ending of the day for many after spending the whole day at home.

Mad Sunday Christmas Special at The Volt
Judgment Yard’s Mad Sundays at The Volt have become the ultimate must-attend weekend events for reggae and dancehall lovers in the capital.

Having attracted a full house last week, tonight will be an explosive affair as the Judgement Yard family has planned something special for their followers.

Dubbed the “Mad Sunday Christmas Special”, the dance floor is set to be on fire considering that the DJs and MCs who include Flavah, 2 Bad, Etherton Bennie and Asha B are among the best in the country.

Besides the regular Judgement Yard DJs, there are going to be several guest artistes to add a bit of flair to the Christmas mood.

This will definitely be the perfect option for merrymakers who want to continue celebrating their Christmas way into the wee hours of Boxing Day.

Family Day at Club Eclipse
The recently opened Eclipse Sports Bar and Grill, located in Nelson Avenue, next to Parliament is hosting a Christmas Family Day. Proprietors of the joint have set-up jumping castles and other fun games for kids so that they also get to enjoy the day.

The pricing of their beverages has been one of the pull factors at the joint and considering the current cash crisis, it will be a wise idea to go and spend the day there with your family of course.

Several DJs will be on rotation throughout the day in order to keep the Christmas energy on a high.

1+1 Christmas Special
The hosts of Ravel Saturdays, Selekta Base, DJ Fujee, Black Snizzle, C Skills and MC Cut are back at it tonight at Club 1+1 Happy for a Christmas Special Party.

Although these guys are well known for their Saturday slot, today will be a bit different because many merrymakers will be in celebratory mode.

This club has proved to be one of the best in the city, as it has established itself as an urban cultural hub.

Summer vibe at the lake
Being one of the best outdoor hangout spots, Lake Chivero is set to be a hive of activity today as many people will throng the place with their families to enjoy the afternoon sun and cool breeze coming from the water body.

Providing the perfect setting for a braai and numerous water based activities like boat riding, the lake is one of the places many people would rather be on a day like this.

Motor Action Super Sunday
Any outgoing person will know that Motor Action Sports Club is the place to be on Sunday for people who love grooving in an outdoor setup.

Today will be no different with the Platinum Entertainment Family promising their followers a good time.

Kicking off in the afternoon, today’s party will carry on until late into the night with MC Big Dollar Bruce and his team of talented DJs doing what they know best, which is entertaining people.

The restaurant scene
For those who would want to do something special with family and friends, going out for lunch or dinner at your favourite restaurant will be a great idea.

Places like News Café, Ocean Basket, Pablo’z, Amanzi, Kwamambo, The Great Wall, Maestro, La Fontaine and China Garden are among some of the top restaurants one can choose from.

There are many restaurants in the capital catering for different cravings so it will just come down to what an individual prefers and certainly the environment factor will also determine ones choice.
