WHAT is new this season for ladies who love to make a fashion statement?

I believe cosy knits, prints and puff jackets come together this season, perhaps as a shelter from the doom and gloom of the cold weather, a fashion statement or both.

Winter trends seem to be heading for a more comfortable look infused with fun colours and a touch of glamour. In short, this season is all about celebrating the individuality of style through the multitude of trends to be worn.

Colours

Globally it appears top colours this winter are snow white and sterling silver. Top models and celebrities are choosing these.

However, bright colours are still in to avoid prevalence of dull outfits that people have come to associate with winter.

Puffer/bomber jackets

These insulated coats have made a comeback in the fashion world, more comfortable and daring to make a fashion statement.

Avoid looking mashed up as a marshmallow by getting a mid-length jacket that reaches up to mid-thigh level, especially with a built-in belt so as to create a flattering silhouette.

Pair this with a solid colour slack and your heeled boots for a chic and warm office look.

Chelsea boots

This unique boot dates back to the Victorian-era and over the centuries has been modified for better comfort and a classy feel. Whether flat, clogged or heeled, grab your pair and make your outfit classic.

Dare to be different by wearing your pencil skirt, frilly-blouse, moto-jacket and your chunky Chelsea boots for that effortless on point look.

Layering

Some dresses are just hard to lock-up in the closet for summer. To ensure that you wear your favourite dress this winter, just layer a turtle neck and make that summer dress suitable for all seasons.

Layering can also come in handy for that Friday night out with the girls. Team up a sweater and your faux fur coat for that edgy party girl look in a cosy way.

Cardigans

Many women have worn these for years but here is a way to wear a cardigan in a feminine way.

The hem of the cardigan should not go more than a few inches past the waistband or your dress or skirt, this allows your figure to be evenly proportioned.

Accessorise

The secret to breathing life to your whole outfit this winter is by adding accessories. This season gives room for many accessories, scarfs, beanies, gloves, mittens ear muffs and yes, the amazing jewelry pieces.

Beanies

A great way to keep warm while being useful for those bad hair days. Rocking your beanie with your favorite puffer jacket is a classic look that will not let you down.

Try your favourite beanie with heels, dress and a fuzzy piece or two to have a fun and bold look.

Scarfs

Whether it is knit, snood or frilly, wear that scarf with pride this winter. During this cold weather, the neck is one of those body parts that heat is centered so why not capture the heat using your scarf and keep warm.

A scarf is also a fun way to add that statement to our outfit, add a bright scarf for a retro look, a printed scarf to stay on top of the game or a lacy scarf for that girly look.

Gloves

Keep those fingers toasty in a pair of chic gloves, my personal favourite being the leather gloves.

Socks

Ladies do not be shy to wear those thigh high happy socks and reveal the “little girl” in you. You can wear them with a high waist solid colour flared skirt, ankle boots and your crop knitted sweater for a casual look.

Jewelry

Spice up a boring outfit with a chunky rope necklace or a pop coloured necklace. Do not hesitate to wear your waterfall necklace and a tweed dress to merge the old and the new.

Remember, have control of your outfit and not the other way round. Whatever you decide to put on this winter, just celebrate your individuality.
