OVER 8 000 people have this year undergone orientation at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.

They include Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, councillors and former opposition party members who joined ZANU PF.

The school inculcates the ruling party’s virtues and norms, as well as a sense of patriotism, in learners.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, the institution’s principal, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, said they were targeting to have trained 10 000 people by year-end.

“So far this year, we have trained 8 000 plus people at the Chitepo School of Ideology and we are targeting to have trained in excess of 10 000 people by the end of this month because we still have a lot of workshops to do and people to train before this year ends.

“Everyone we have trained so far this year is important but I would say the most notable people who have undergone training include Members of Parliament, councillors, members of the opposition who joined ZANU PF and those members who are rejoining ZANU PF after they had defected to the opposition and some who had started their own political parties,” he said.

Cde Machacha, who is also a ZANU PF Politburo member, said ahead of next year’s general elections, it was important that the ruling party’s members are conscientised about the party’s ethos and direction by undergoing orientation at the school.

The school is constructing new headquarters at the corner of Samora Machel Avenue and Simon Vengayi Muzenda Street in Harare, with the multi-storey building set for completion in August next year.

“We are now around 20 percent complete in terms of construction. We still have three more floors to build and we are anticipating that it will be complete by August or September next year.

“The new premises will accommodate offices for administration and teaching staff, as well as classrooms and a staff and students’ canteen,” Cde Machacha said, adding the school’s syllabus is undergoing review.
