The Commander of the Defence Forces, General Constantine Guvheya Chiwenga, through the Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation, will hold an amateur golf tournament on Saturday at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf and Country Club, which will be followed by an all-night dinner dance.

Mrs Mary Chiwenga, who is co-coordinating the golf tournament and dinner dance, said the tournament will start at 10am, rounding off at sunset whilst the dinner dance will commence at 7pm till 7am the next morning.

The two events are being held to help raise $2,5 million to fight non-communicable diseases. And this year’s event will be dedicated to Wishes Chimuzhinga, who died last year at the age of 12 after suffering malignant cancer. At the time of her death, Wishes was getting assistance from Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation.

Saturday’s event will be graced by the Kenyan Chief of Defence, General Julius Waweru Karangi, who will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs Mary Karangi. Army commanders from the Sadc region will also attend the tournament and dinner. Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa have already confirmed attendance.

Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu and possibly Alick Macheso will provide entertainment in the 12-hour-long dinner dance. Part of the proceedings of the all-night event will be screened live on national television.

“Though our initiatives are primarily for the armed forces, we will also, from time to time, cater for civilians and the cancer care facility that we intend to open will also be available to members of the public,” said Mrs Chiwenga.

Whilst the golf tournament is open to anyone who wishes to take part, the dinner dance is strictly by invite.
