Dr Tapfumaneyi buried

Retired Air Force of Zimbabwe Group Captain and Principal Director in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Chris Tapfumaneyi was yesterday laid to rest at Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare.

Dr Tapfumaneyi died on Wednesday at the Avenues Clinic in the capital.

He was 63.

Dr Tapfumaneyi was buried with full military honours, the highest military salute bestowed on military personnel who served with distinction.

The burial was attended by Health and Child Care minister, Dr David Parirenyatwa and Defence minister Dr Sidney Sekeramayi who later handed over the national flag to Dr Tapfumaneyi’s widow.

The handing over of the national flag to Amai Tapfumaneyi is in line with the military tradition as a reminder of the departed’s dedication to duty.

Dr Tapfumaneyi was born in Goromonzi in 1952 and enrolled for a medical degree at the then University of Rhodesia in 1972. Between 1974 and 1979 he attended University of Ibadan in Nigeria to further his medical studies. He was attested into the Air force of Zimbabwe in 1981 upon his return from Nigeria.

He rose through the ranks until his retirement in 1996 as Group Captain.

He held various positions in the army which included medical officer at Manyame Airbase and director general medical services at Zimbabwe Defence Forces Headquarters.

After his retirement in the army he joined the Ministry of Health and at one point he was appointed chief executive of Harare Central Hospital.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
