AFTER announcing his arrival onto the Premier Soccer League (PSL) stage in grand fashion on Sunday, Bulawayo Chiefs’ new recruit Mthokozisi Msebe can duly enjoy his birthday.

Msebe, who scored his debut Premiership  goal when “The Ninjas” upstaged champions FC Platinum 2-0 at Luveve, turned 22 on Thursday.

The Bantu Rovers product is, however, aware that a lot more is now expected from him.

Although he joined Bulawayo Chiefs from Bantu Rovers in 2020, he did not have the opportunity for to showcase his talent due to the suspension of football because of Covid-19.

He headed home Chiefs’ opener from a Obriel Chirinda cross, who was the scorer of the team’s second goal.

“I was happy because that was my first PSL goal,” said Msebe, a former Mzilikazi High School student.

His dribbling skills, the way he switches play and his ability to get into scoring positions are some of Msebe’s attributes.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder could be an integral part of an ambitious Bulawayo Chiefs side that was the busiest of the top-flight clubs on the transfer market.

Chiefs are now home to some experienced and talented players like Kelvin Madzongwe, Perfect Chikwende, Ian Nekati and the Moyo twins, Kelvin and Elvis.

Their home win over FC Platinum took their points tally to seven points in three matches.

They are two points behind early pacesetters Manica Diamonds, going into the weekend’s fourth round of fixtures.

It was a win that Msebe thinks could shape not only his future, but the team’s season as well.

“I can say it was a very important goal because now I know how it feels to score in the PSL. I have opened my account now with the team; going forward, it will be easy for more goals to come,” said Msebe.

He is expected to start again when Chiefs play Chicken Inn in another highly anticipated Bulawayo derby at Luveve on Saturday.

“This season, my main aim is to score more goals for the team and to achieve the team’s targets.”

He is also dreaming of donning the national team jersey one day.

“A national team call-up is something that every player dreams of and that’s one of my targets,” he said.

Bulawayo Chiefs have also groomed and moved a number good players to local and foreign clubs.

These include Ishmael Wadi, who is at JDR Stars in South Africa;  Shadreck Nyahwa (Dynamos); Raisome Pavari (FC Platinum); Brandon Mpofu (Dynamos); and Polite Moyo, who plays for (Ngezi Platinum Stars).
