Word of the week

WE have now entered the second half of the year and sadly, it has started on a tough note.

It reminds me of a man named Nehemiah in the Bible. One of the most common verses in this book is Nehemiah 8:10.

Towards the end of the verse it says, “ . . . the joy of the Lord is your strength”. Many quote the verse in times of distress as if when they are in sorrow then God is their strength, yet that is not the case of the context.

Nehemiah and crew are rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and are faced with very difficult circumstances. It is actually a miracle that they complete the wall in record time under such unbearable circumstances. That is the context of this verse. They managed to pull through because God gave them strength as He was pleased by what they were doing.

I have recently realised that everybody is going through something. It might not be what you are facing but they are facing a challenge somewhere in their life.

The apostle John tells us in 1 John 4:8 that God is love. Where am I going with this? In these tough times, let us please God and He will give us strength.

It costs nothing to be kind, to give a helping hand, to be nice, to help someone in need. Go out of your way this week to help someone and you will be surprised by the strength that you will receive to help you pull through your own challenges. Until next week, take care and God bless.
