DESPITE trailing seven games behind other teams in the Netball Super League, ZRP Support Unit Queens coach Simbarashe Nyoni said they are set for a crush program to cover up for the matches.

This comes amid speculation that the police side had pulled out of the league.

“It is unfortunate that because this is a police side team, we had national duty programs that we had to commit to.

“This is why we were left behind but I can confirm that we did not pull out of the league.

“We are still in the race,” said Nyoni.

While other teams are left with two games each to the end of the season, the Support Unit Queens trail their counterparts by eight games.

The police side gaffer said his charges will take up mid-week games to catch up.

“November 30, the last league games will be playing so we have planned our program in such a way that we will have some midweek games and cover the gap,” he said.

After 18 games, the Nyoni led charges are ninth on the log standings with 20 points and eight defeats.

The gaffer said they could be out of the title race but he is still optimistic of a position in the top five.

“We had a lot of programs going on this year, which caused a temporary disruption when it came to training.

“My girls lost consistency, resulting in us dropping points.

“I know that would not be their performance if circumstances were stable and training was consistent.

“Now that we have resumed training, we have set ourselves a target to raise to a position in the top five,” he said.

With the season almost over, Nyoni said he is already building up for the next season.
