HOSTS ZPC Kariba were left increasingly anxious about relegation again after visiting Chicken Inn jammed their power and restricted them to a share of the spoils.

Rodwell Dhlakama’s men fired blanks again yesterday in their Castle Lager Premiership Soccer League tie against title aspirants Chicken Inn at Nyamhunga.

ZPC Kariba have been struggling to climb out of the bottom four.

The two teams were evenly balanced in both halves, creating several clear-cut chances but poor finishing proved to be their greatest undoing.

Dhlakama rued two missed points than a point gained, saying the outcome further complicates their quest to avoid relegation.

“We went into the match as underdogs but we matched them man-for-man on the field of play.

“We created two clear-cut chances which we failed to convert. We feel it was two points lost more than a point gained.

“I am disappointed,” said Dhlakama.

Both teams came into the match smarting from losses in their previous matches against FC Platinum and Dynamos.

ZPC Kariba fell 1-0 away to champions FC Platinum at Mandava while the Gamecocks were handed a 3-0 hiding by Dynamos at Barbourfields.

Yesterday’s game presented an opportunity for immediate redemption for either side but they were forced to wait for another round of fixtures.

Dhlakama, who is not new to such situations, vowed to fight to the bitter end to ensure the electricity men avoid relegation.

Despite the slump in form by his team, Gamecocks coach Joey Antipas said the championship was still open and the Bulawayo side would draw confidence from the point gained going into their next match.

“We improved on our defence, looking at our previous match against Dynamos.

“We created several chances but we could not convert. We cancelled each other out,” said Antipas.

“All is not lost. We will derive confidence from the point we got as we go into the Harare City match. We were flying high and we hit a bad patch, and a win can change all that, and that can happen to any team,” he said.

Defender Kuzivakwashe Madima, who put on a man-of-the-match performance in repelling everything that Chicken Inn threw at them, felt ZPC Kariba played well but were let down by some poor finishing.

“We played well but we failed to convert out chances. We are going to fight and escape relegation,’’ he said. Walter Nyamukondiwa in KARIBA
