The curtain came down on the 2015 Zimbabwe Schools’ Quiz Tournament with the national finals held at Rest Haven Retreat.

0309-1-1-QUIZ (5)It was a memorable three day contest which saw several collaborations marking the perfect ending to what was an outstanding 2015 Zimbabwe Schools’ Quiz across the country.

Organised by the Book of African Records, the 2015 season was made possible through support from corporate sponsors such as Old Mutual Zimbabwe Foundation.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our corporate sponsors who made this year’s quiz possible. A big thank you to Old Mutual Zimbabwe Foundation, the very foundation on which the Zimbabwe Schools’ Quiz Tournament has been built for the last three years.

“This initiative is deeply indebted to your unyielding and unwavering support for education and uplifting the youth of Zimbabwe,” Brian Tayengwa of Book of African Records said.

He also thanked Consultus Publishing Services (CPS), who came on this year as one of the leading sponsors.

“Their commitment to the quiz and Zimbabwean scholars was robust as they got involved in a number of unique and innovative initiatives. One was the ‘$1 for 2 challenge’ held at the CPS gazebo during the 2015 Harare International Book Fair, where members of the public were asked quiz questions with a chance to win a $1 on the spot.

“This was well received by Book Fair visitors and helped in increasing the exposure of the quiz. CPS also sponsored the ‘4th Man Challenge,’ which was a challenge for all the substitutes of the 30 quiz teams that graced the National Finals.

“This allowed the substitutes to also be front and centre during the finals, as they battled it out for a chance to be in the top 2 and win a donation of books for their respective schools. We look forward to them deepening their involvement with the quiz and building a stronger relationship going forward,” he said.

0309-1-1-QUIZ (3)Astro Mobile also availed their impeccable smartphones for the Afro-Quiz Challenge, currently being aired on ZiFM.

The challenge turns the table on the teachers in charge of quiz (TICs) and puts them in the quiz hot seat to stand a chance to win a smartphone.

“It has been well received by listeners and is another avenue that allows the quiz to be more accessible to Zimbabweans across the country.

“Many thanks expressed to all the advertisers who came on board in supporting the first edition of the biannual Quiz Chronicles Magazine,” he said.

The magazine is a platform to not only disseminate quiz-related information and updates, but more importantly to showcase the depth of talent we have within our schools.

The inaugural edition featured with content sourced from scholars and the advertisers who supported young talent.

Other contributors include the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) the provincial Coordinating Partners (PCPs), quiz patrons as well as the students who participated in the quiz this year.

According to organisers, the level of competition was amazing and the research was thorough.

The Zimbabwe Schools’ Quiz Tournament is an Afro-centric quiz competition for high schools organised by the Book of African Records.
