Zimbabwe is among 14 developing countries that are set to be the first beneficiaries of Covid-19 vaccine aid from China, the Asian country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, has said.

In a statement posted by the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe on its Twitter handle Tuesday, Mr Wang said China is also planning to assist another 38 developing countries with the vaccine.

“First, apart from Pakistan, China is also providing vaccine aid to Brunei, Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Palestine, Belarus, Sierra Leon, Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, altogether 13 developing countries,” said Mr Wang.

“Going forward, we will also assist another 38 developing countries with vaccines. We also take an active part in the WHO-led Covax and provide vaccines through this platform to developing countries.”
