Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organisation to “lead” or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organisations.

(1) higher levels of physical power, need to display power and control others, force superiority, ability to generate fear, or group-member’s need for a powerful group protector (Primal Leadership),
(2) superior mental energies, superior motivational forces, perceivable in communication and behaviours, lack of fear, courage, determination (Psycho energetic Leadership),
(3) higher abilities in managing the overall picture (Macro-Leadership),
(4) higher abilities in specialized tasks (Micro-Leadership), (5) higher ability in managing the execution of a task (Project Leadership), and (6) higher level of values, wisdom, and spirituality (Spiritual Leadership), where any Leader derives its Leadership from a unique mix of one or more of the former factors”.
Studies of leadership
Leadership studies have produced theories involving traits, situational interaction, function, behaviour, power, social and political vision, goals and values personal and cultural, charisma, and intelligence, among others.

Excellence in Commitment
A deeply committed Leader demonstrates a dedication to his/her work, which in turn contributes to the vibrancy of the community. This quality manifests itself when a leader:
Demonstrates an intense commitment to provide excellent service to co-workers, students and faculty;
Shares enthusiasm with others;
Maintains perseverance in the face of adversity;
Is known in the community as a reliable go-to person, willing volunteer or good citizen (eg reaches out to new staff; motivates others.
Excellence in Innovation
An innovative leader shows outstanding creativity when confronted with challenges, issues or a need or desire for improvement. One might approach his/her work in the following ways:
Actively seeks ways to advance beyond the status quo;
Pro-actively identifies novel, creative ways to improve upon processes or service delivery;
Implements change in a positive manner and strives to ensure its success;
Demonstrates ability to stir the pot for positive, fresh impact;

Excellence in Leadership
A strong leader demonstrates a unique ability to guide and inspire others, which in turn contributes to the effective and efficient functioning of organisation. Both managers and non-managers may possess, and make evident, strong leadership in the following ways:
Inspires and encourages personal and professional development in others;
Builds strong relationships that support a high level of trust and credibility;
Adapts readily to new situations;
Effectively persuades others using keen organisational awareness;
Mentors and cultivates employees, creating a culture of respect that fosters an atmosphere conducive to achievement;
Contributes to the success of an initiative that benefits those outside his/her own department and/or places emphasis on collaboration within and among others.
Excellence in Learning
One who ensures that learning is integrated with work, and uses the knowledge gained to improve business results may approach his/her work in the following ways:
