JAIROS TAPERA was once again conspicuous by his absence on the Yadah Stars bench at the National Sports Stadium as the new boys fell to their third consecutive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defeat yesterday.

An injury time goal by Innocent Muchaneka secured the points for Chicken Inn and ensured that the home side – who were pummeled 2-7 by Bantu Rovers in their last game – continued to sing the blues.

The mauling away to Bantu Rovers followed a 0-1 defeat to Dynamos and the subsequent suspension of Tapera by team owner Walter Magaya.

But unlike last weekend the Premiership debutants looked solid and gave as much as they got until a lapse in concentration in the 92nd minute cost them dearly.

Muchaneka ghosted in to direct a Physwell Madhazi cross past goalie Tinashe Majadire. Majadire guarded goal ahead of Tafadzwa Dube who picked up the ball from the back of the net seven times against Bantu.

Yadah Stars assistant coach Thomas Ruzive, who took charge of the team, played down the absence of Tapera and insisted the team was in the right direction.

“We are not pressing any panic button, we are in the right direction, everything will be okay. We can’t say much about the absence of coach Tapera. We are in one spirit and his absence doesn’t bring any difference because what we are doing has his blessing,” said Ruzive.

Chicken Inn coach Rahman Gumbo was pleased to record his third win on the road. “On the road we are grinding results and we really believe in ourselves that we can win up to the last minute,” he said. “However, to be quite frank, Yadah were an improved side they played differently from what I saw last week.

“My players were a little bit complacent they were underrating Yadah because of what happened last week. It’s normal in football when players see a team losing by a big margin they tend to underrated,” Gumbo said.

Chicken have recorded identical 1-0 wins away to Triangle and Hwange.
