AT least 10 000 projects are set to receive financial support from the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB) this year as part of the institution’s women empowerment initiative.
Since its inception, the women’s bank has provided loans for over 114 000 projects predominantly fronted by women across the country, as it continues to economically and socially empower females.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZWMB chief executive officer Dr Mandas Marikanda (pictured) said they intend to serve more women through innovative and relevant products.
“We have planned for 10 000 disbursements according to the available resources but we hope to treble if we access more resources. We look forward to walking the journey with newbies on board, struggling enterprises and successful ones. At the bank, collaboration and support are the attitude, instead of competition and strife,” she said.
It is the bank’s ambition to decentralise to all provinces, districts, wards and villages to offer services to women as part of financial inclusion.
The bank, Dr Marikanda said, has been sincere in its determination to reach all parts of Zimbabwe.
