AN Epworth woman, Rumbidzai Katiyo, last week approached the civil court seeking $1 300 monthly from her former husband, a vendor, as maintenance for their three children.
Katiyo told the court that the former husband, only cited as N Nyabinde in court papers, has two houses in Epworth.
She said Nyabinde draws rentals from the two houses.
Katiyo also claimed that Nyabinde owns a vehicle and sometimes uses it to ferry people for a fee.
She added that before parting ways with Nyabinde, they had started a second hand clothes retailing business, which generates a profit of over $1 000 every month.
However, Nyabinde argued that he could not commit to paying the money as he is taking care of another child. He also claimed that his monthly earnings are about $250.
Further, Nyabinde said the vehicle in question has broken down, adding that the Epworth houses do not have water, sewer and electricity connections. As a result, he said he is only realising about $30 a month from the houses.
The court ruled that Nyabinde should pay $800 as maintenance.
