WINDVIEW Primary School’s Scripture Union donated goods worth hundreds of dollars to Matanga Education and Skills Training for Underprivileged Children’s Home (Mest).

The donation was the second, in fulfilment of a promise made last year.

The school’s Scripture Union Club, which helped pool the goods, was accompanied to Mest by the headmistress, Ms Dube and her deputy, Mrs Nderere.

While presenting the donation, Ms Dube said the donation was made possible through efforts of the school, students and their parents.

Ms Dube promised the children at Mest not to lose heart but be strengthened by the fact that Windview Primary – which is based in Harare – would always be on their side.

The deputy head, Mrs Nderere, said: “The Scripture Union Club led by Mrs Butau, one of our teachers, worked tirelessly to gather the clothes and raise funds to purchase these goods, a move that has shown a spirit of love and unity among us.

“We treasure this home, Mest, as it is isolated and far from the urban areas unlike other orphanages that can easily be reached out. Our desire is to see Government or other organisations assisting you to build better facilities such as accommodation.

“Our school strives to make you feel that you are part of us by covering the gap left by your parents with the little we can get.”

Mest founder Mr Matanga said he was overwhelmed with joy and very grateful to the school for lending another hand at a time when children at the home were battling to cope with the harsh weather conditions.

The orphanage looks after 86 children who are enrolled in different surrounding primary and secondary schools, the closest of which is about 20km.

Mr Matanga appealed to other well- wishers to come on board and help the children.

Accommodation, transport, clothes – in particularly shoes – are some of the urgent requirements at the orphanage.

Most of the children walk to school barefoot.

Mest is situated in Melfort, 34km southeast of Harare.
