THE Warriors have rallied behind their injured teammate Partson Jaure, raising an initial US$5 000 towards his medical bills amid revelations that more support is on its way for the Dynamos captain.

Jaure (29) suffered a skull fracture in a car accident that occurred in the early hours of last Sunday and is admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he is receiving treatment.

He is set to undergo surgery at Health Point in Harare this morning.

Touched by the centre back’s plight, the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe sent an SOS to foreign-based Warriors who responded swiftly and raised just over US$5 000 within two days.

Spokesperson of the Warriors group, Ovidy Karuru, confirmed the development yesterday.

“We would like to thank FUZ for giving us the heads up on Jaure’s situation. They gave us the message on March 25 and I took the message to the Warriors’ WhatsApp group and the guys responded very well and came up with some donations to help our friend.

“This can happen to me any day and to someone anytime so we have to help each other. Wellington Mupandare (former Warriors manager) is also part of this group and he also told us the situation was bad and that Jaure needed an operation.

“So the players decided to contribute and I would want to say thumbs up to FUZ.

“We are aware Jaure will also need rehabilitation so some of the money will go towards that. If there are extras, then the money will be given to Jaure’s family to buy food and other necessities.

“All the Warriors are putting him (Jaure) in their prayers. We need him back in the Warriors set up, he is a special player. Dynamos need him, the fans need him and his family needs him too. He is a good player so we hope everything goes on well,” said Karuru.

FUZ president, Desmond Maringwa, hailed the Warriors for their gesture.

“The money comes through the Union and we are delighted as the Union that the players have shown a true spirit of Ubuntu and real solidarity,” said Maringwa.

“In a short space of time when we talked about the need to assist their fellow Warrior . . . regardless of the period we are in of the coronavirus pandemic, they all went out of their way to try and send the funds to help the situation.

“It was really touching and they all sent messages to wish Partson all the best and they are praying for a successful surgery.

“The unity they showed from as far as Europe, China and South Africa to be able to make such a contribution shows love and humility. As FUZ we really thank them from the bottom of our hearts and pray that they stay safe in this difficult moment.”

The Warriors’ gesture comes at a time when the Dynamos fans’ National Executive Committee had also established a fund-raising initiative to raise financial and material support for Jaure.

“The crowd funding initiative came about following our captain’s involvement in a nasty car accident on Sunday (last week).

“His (Jaure’s) head injuries require delicate and complex procedures by specialists and the procedures will not come cheap and hence the need for the crowd funding project.

“The management of the special fund shall be overseen by our Supporters National Executive Committee and the Jaure family to allow for transparency and accountability.

“Our Committee shall however, liaise with the club’s executive committee so that our committee, the Jaure family and the club leadership work together without mistrust or suspicion,” said the Dynamos supporters chairman, Benjamin Munzira.
