War collaborators are a key constituency of the ruling ZANU PF and must not be sidelined from contesting for positions in the party structure.

This was said by the ruling party’s Secretary for Information and chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa in Chinhoyi during a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting to give guidelines for the impending provincial War Veterans League elections.

“During the 1960s congresses, we set up party structures that did not incorporate the military wing. This, however, did not mean war veterans were not important and relevant,” he said.

“As such this does not mean, war collaborators, who are not part and parcel of the League as it is solely for war veterans, are not important. They will be part of the system through an affiliate and, through election into the main and women’s league structures.”

Ambassador Mutsvangwa said Government was ensuring that war collaborators receive support. There was need for the ruling party to assess the loyalty of war veterans eyeing positions in the War Veterans League.

“If we look at war veterans in Mashonaland Central, East, Manicaland and others, we will see that there are proper war veterans structures.

“But here in Mashonaland West and Midlands, there have been several defections with other members showing their allegiance to the opposition parties,” he said.

Politburo member who is also Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said the province must mobilise more voters, amid indications that registration numbers in some districts had dropped.
