IT has been endorsed by celebrities, socialites, influencers, the media and fun lovers.
It is the “Vokal All Black Special 20Plenty Edition” – the one party not to be missed.
After causing such a buzz on the local showbiz scene, the event which is set to light up Motor Action Sports Club, takes place tonight.
So big is the celebration that some internationally based entertainers including Juggling Captain Pliez and Lenny Matterhorn have flown in from Cape Town to play at the party.
It comes as no surprise that this fete has been causing so much noise, considering the popularity of the birthday boy on the capital’s leisure scene.
Godfrey Bakasa, who many people know as Vokal, might not be an entertainer of any sort but his work behind the scenes in the industry has earned him the respect of many.
Not only has he managed several top artistes, but has also played significant roles on organising numerous major events.
The Sunday Mail had a chat with Vokal so as to get a better picture of what makes him tick and the journey he has traveled in the entertainment industry.
Born and bred in Mbare, this individual who just turned 29 has been in the game for a while now, breaking onto the scene back in 2015 when he was managing Seh Calaz’s affairs.
His relationship with the artiste took off during the formative years of Chillspot Records which is where the two met.
“DJ Fantan and Ribhe are the people who exposed me to the music industry when they formed Chillspot and that is where I met Seh Calaz,” said Vokal.
“We became close and as time went on I ended up being his manager. It was during this period that I gained a lot of experience in industry.”
While his time in the Calaz camp was sometimes dogged by controversy, his efforts did not go unnoticed, being nominated in the Best Manager category at the Zim dancehall Awards at some point.
After parting ways with the chanter, he has since provided his managerial services to numerous other artistes including Bounty Lisa, Stunner and Gary Tight.
At the moment Vokal is fighting in Tocky Vibes’ corner and might just be what the doctor ordered with the chanter on a quest for resurgence.
While most people know him as an artiste manager, he has also been making a name for himself as an event planner, being heavily involved with several prominent brands and events including Motor Action Sundays and Madirirano.
“My mentors Simbarashe Chakare and Spencer Madziya always give me the floor to use my imagination on how I feel the events of this generation should be like.
“I can say I am proud to be part of Madirirano and Motor Action Sundays as the coordinator and host respectively.”
Away from entertainment, Vokal is also a talented footballer who plays for Division 2 side, Sprouting F.C.
He added that his 29th birthday party celebration was going to be the biggest party in his career.
“This Sunday is going to be epic and I think this will be the biggest birthday I have had so far. The hype has been massive which shows that the ‘Vokal All Black’ brand is growing, something that I owe to the support I get from all corners.”
