UZ star shines bright

The University of Zimbabwe has gone 2 463 places up the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities on the back of its refined research and science and technology development.
Previously in position 4 001, the university is now at number 1 538. The institution is in 14th position out of 900 universities ranked in Africa south of the Sahara.

Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira said of this: “It shows the increased research capacity of our universities. Our education system has improved over the years.

“We are seeing increased stabilisation and we are on an upward move. Confidence in our higher education system is being retained.”

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities ranks the UZ as Zimbabwe’s best higher learning institution followed by the National University of Science and Technology. Midlands State University is in third position, followed by Bindura University of Science Education.

Africa University and Chinhoyi University of Technology are in fifth and sixth position, respectively. They are followed by Great Zimbabwe University, Zimbabwe Open University, Harare Institute of Technology, Women’s University in Africa and Lupane State University.

In 12th place is Solusi University followed by Catholic University of Zimbabwe, Reformed Church University and Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University.
