THE United States’ new Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Pamela Tremont, has called for mutual and understanding relationship between her country and Zimbabwe for economic development and prosperity
Addressing belated commemorations of the 248th US Independence Day on Thursday, Ms Tremont said Zimbabwe and her country shared a common liberation history of an armed struggle and should cooperate for the two countries’ development.
The event was supposed to be held on the 4th of July, but was postponed since the Ambassador was still settling down.
“The farmers and merchants and pastors gathered in that room in Philadelphia believed the path to prosperity for themselves, their communities, and for their new states lay in establishing a framework of rights and responsibilities that would underpin the growth of the largest, most prosperous economy on earth. Prosperity is what I want – what the United States wants – for Zimbabwe’s future,” Ms Tremont said.
“The strength of her people, the richness of her soil, and the beauty of her landscape are unique. Zimbabwe’s potential is limitless. That is what we celebrate today. That optimism. So today we renew the pledge of our lives, our fortunes, and our honour for our hard-fought freedoms.
“And we commit to a US-Zimbabwe relationship based on our founding ideals and rooted in the optimism that our best days lie ahead.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr Fredrick Shava, was the guest of honour.
