More than US$630 million was realised during the 2021/2022 tobacco season, a 7,4 percent increase from US$590 million in the same period a year earlier.

Mop-up sales are still underway.

Contract farmers account for 75 percent (195 million kgs) of the 207 million kilogrammes delivered thus far.

Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB)public affairs officer Ms Chelesani Moyo said:

“We are surprised with the statistics given the climatic conditions that we have experienced this season. We didn’t expect to amass this much.

“However, seeing the rate at which farmers were delivering their crop, we revised the final output to 175 million kilogrammes, but here we are – We have surpassed 200 million kilogrammes.”
