LIGHTER Football Academy will reward some of its top performers of the 2022 season at an awards ceremony in the capital today.
Established in 2021, the academy is part of the Avenues Stars Sports Facilitators and Arts League, which caters for teams in Dzivarasekwa, Kambuzuma, Kuwadzana, Glen Norah, Southlea Park, Domboshava and Norton.
“We had a very successful season and have decided to reward and honour some of our top performers,” said Lighter Football Academy president Advance Mtetwa.
“We managed at least a top-three finish in all our age groups, with our Under-10 boys’ team winning their division, while the Under-12s, 14s and 16s came second.
“Our Under-18s came in third.
“Pertaining to the awards ceremony itself, everything is now in place,” he said.
Seven players are set to get awards.
David Yohane will walk away with the Player of the Year Award, while Beaunah Magaya has been named female Player of the Year.
Tadiwanashe Chitemerere is Young Player of the Year, while the duo of Vincent Chuzi and Henriater Mushayabande have been named the most disciplined and most improved players, respectively.
There are also a couple of awards for James Chimutudu and Brenda Hokonya, who have been named coach and supporter of the year in that order.
The function is expected to be attended by headmasters from neighbouring schools, junior parliamentarians, members of the health sector, church representatives and, most notably, CAPS United’s assistant coach, Nelson Matongorere.
