WOMEN should support and encourage each other to succeed in business, as this would likely add impetus to the country’s economic growth efforts, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has said.

Speaking at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Women in Enterprise Conference and Awards ceremony in Harare on Friday, Minister Mutsvangwa implored women to support each other in the empowerment drive.

“As women in business, you can only do better if you exchange ideas and encourage each other. The ‘pull her down’ syndrome has been the Achilles heel for women for a long time, but seeing you coming together is an indication of the willpower you have to support one another and grow together in business,” she said.

“With such innovative and enterprising women, the transformation of our economy into upper middle-income status by 2030 is guaranteed.”

She saluted women who were honoured for being torchbearers in a field characterised by cut-throat competition from men.

“We cannot fail as a nation when we have such women of integrity and resilience. Your determination to succeed in business alongside your male counterparts is a sure recipe for socio-economic turnaround.

“Let us be the key architects and builders of our own destiny and, indeed, builders of our beautiful country brick by brick.”

The 2022 Women in Enterprise Conference and Awards, which were held under the theme “Igniting Innovative Business Resilience in Challenging Times”, saw different businesses and individuals scooping honours for best performances in various business fields.

This year’s theme sought to celebrate the resilient nature of businesswomen who are persevering despite numerous challenges.
