Take responsibility, think like a captain

Hunt for Greatness
Milton Kamwendo

At this time, better than any other time, there are abundant opportunities. Believe this and your greatness begins.

You are not a victim, locked in impossibilities and cheated out of opportunity. You are a co-pilot of spaceship earth. You are a captain of your life, totally responsible for what happens to you and in you. Your decisions matter.

You cannot blame the past, blame parentage, blame the weather or the day you were born.

Joining the fellowship of blamers, complainers and malcontents will not take you where you want to go. Choose to take responsibility, take the hot-seat and choose greatness.

There are abundant opportunities all around. You can launch your life. Delete all excuses and stop interpreting age using the formulas of the lazy.

You are the right age for your vision.  There is abundance all around. Believe it and see it. Abundance is a spirit. It is a way of seeing the world and a way of being.

In 1875, Mr William Ernest Henley lay awaiting his fate.

Due to complications arising from tuberculosis his leg had just been amputated. Immediately after the amputation, he was told that sadly his other leg would require a similar procedure.

On his doctor’s advice he stood to lose both legs.

He had to think and decide. Would he let go of the other leg? He chose to be the captain of his soul.

He took responsibility for his life and health. Instead of yielding merely to expert advice he chose to search for a better way aligned to his desire.

He took a wise and radical choice. He dug deep into the abundant resources within him. He choose to look beyond the present grim report.

Never think that the narrative you are hearing is the only one. Never think the options on the table are the only ones. Never think that the limitations you are seeing are all there is.

Never think that you are marooned without alternatives. Never operate with a mindset that says that all doors are locked and there are no windows. You have a choice. You have personal power.

Mr Henley chose to enlist the services of the distinguished English Surgeon Joseph Lister, who was able to save Henley’s remaining leg after multiple surgeries. Do not wait like a lame duck for situations to change.

Move the possibilities and challenge the process.

Take responsibility and choose your way. The thoughts you think are more important than anything else that is happening outside you.

Keep thinking about the way you are thinking. Mindset will always determine what you mind and more.

Go beyond fear and start thinking for yourself. Go beyond rumours and start thinking. Go beyond blinding things and start thinking and writing new stories and new possibilities. There is still more to read and write.

As he lay in pain recovering in hospital, Mr. W.E. Henley wrote a moving and legendary poem: Invictus, meaning “unconquered.” In the poem he reflected on the journey of his life.

He knew that what he was going through was not the end. He knew that darkness would never overwhelm light. He knew he had grit.

He had rich recollections of his impoverished childhood, yet that was not going to stop him. He knew that his past was not a prison.

He knew that for greatness he could not use history as a crutch but a thinking channel. He wrote with passion.

You may be down but you are not defeated.

The past is a small matter, compared to the abundant opportunities of the present. The present is a little matter compared to the huge possibilities in the future.

As a captain of your soul, choose to hold the wheel and navigate your ship to greatness.

Stop floating around and start moving with focus and vision. Stop regretting the missed opportunities of the past and use the opportunities you hold. In your adversity there is abundant inspiration for greatness.

In this moment lies greatness waiting for you to launch.

William Henley, inspired, moved from within penned this beautiful Victorian verse:

“Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.”

You are a captain and focus is power. Great and amasing power.

Focus on what is not working and you will stop working and wonder why nothing ever works. Whatever you focus on will determine what inspires and moves you.

Glance at the realities regardless of how bad they may be but focus on the power portal within and the greatness journey ahead.

The night may have enveloped you and left you confused and fearful. It may look as though the sun will never shine again. Believe in the light and hope to see the day. You may feel that you have sunk into a deep and dark hole.

Do not let fickle  emotions take the wheel. Keep holding on and do not lose hope.

Maintain a grounded attitude of gratitude.

Everything comes with nested opportunity and good. Be willing to see beyond the layers of adversity. Summon the power within and rise to your place of promise.

Do not be swept by the torrent of circumstance into believing that there is no hope and that the way is closed. Do not let circumstances sway you from believing in greatness.

Do not let unbelief overwhelm you. Do not give up or tire because of the inclement climate in your context. Instead of crying aloud, pray aloud. Instead of stooping low in hopelessness rise and start counting your opportunities.

Lift your head high. Keep fighting on and moving. Do not let the clouds of despair disable your thinking faculties and imagination.

What limits others should never limit you. Do not superimpose other people’s realities and limitation on yourself without thinking.

You do not afford the luxury of negative thinking and limited living. What you think is the problem may be the problem. Break the shell.

Think differently and you will see definitely. Let the tough and rough times you go through find you unafraid. Do not let fear imprison or stop you. \

Keep hope alive.

Your current circumstances hide great blessings within them. Your road has not ended, you can blaze a new trail. You have not hit the ceiling. You likely only saw the sky with its unlimited blue space ready for your exploration.

There is abundant greatness all around you. Change the way you think and you change your life.

Change the way to look at life and colour will flood your life. What is happening in your mind is more important than what is happening anywhere else. Start expressing gratitude and noticing greatness everywhere around you and you will be drawn towards its abundant fare.

You are not a victim but the captain of your soul. The decisions you take today will lead to the greatness you will enjoy. Think abundance.

Your current situation contains unbelievable opportunities if you are willing to embrace the now with faith. Your worst nightmare could be your wake up call. What other people are calling loss is a blessing in disguise.

Do not be frighted by disguises and shadows, mirrors and mirages. If you do not know the value of the opportunities you have you will always operate at a discount and below your potential.

Look around, and you will see a pattern that has been there all along – there is greatness everywhere and your own place is there too and has been waiting for you to show up prepared to play.

Stop living below your potential and calling of greatness. Start thinking in terms of your potential not your shortage, limitations, conditions and scarcity. You are only limited if you accept limitation as your mindset.

There is abundant opportunity and more opportunity that you can use up in seven lifetimes. You are not a prisoner of your past or your conditions. Let your mind dwell on opportunity and not shortage. The good thing about opportunity is that it is there!

This moment is your moment of abundant opportunity. There are opportunities that you are stepping on now that will never come again.

Embrace them. Start seeing them and your life will never be the same again. Opportunities multiply as you start noticing them.

Take resolute and abundant action and you will stir the giant that is in you. You are not defeated until you accept defeat. Your spirit is unconquerable, unless you give up and lose hope.

How can you lose hope when an abundant future awaits you with arms open and loaded with blessings beyond your wildest dreams?
