One of the most special occasions in life is a wedding day — a beautiful celebration of love. And there is nothing wrong in letting our pets join in those celebrations. Be innovative on your big day.

Some consider pets as part of the family. Some dog lovers even make dogs part of their wedding entourage.

Recently a groom in Bloemfontein, South Africa, decided to make his whole entourage comprise of dogs. The entourage had eight bulldogs, all in floral neck garlands, and blue collar and metallic leashes of about a meter-and-a-half in length.

This was not the first time dogs had been used to spice up a wedding. Last year in November, another couple in North America made their dog the videographer. They put a GoPro camera on their dog so she could film the wedding from her perspective, and the result was magical.

According to the Knot’s Annual Wedding Trends Report, the use of the convertible wedding dresses, fashion forward floral, hiring of professional brides’ maids, personalised wedding themes and even a four-legged ring bearers in the form of a horse or pony seem to be taking the market by storm.

When it comes to the dress, brides are always looking to get more bang for their money. The convertible wedding dress does double-duty, taking you from ceremony chic to reception ready with just the pull of a zip or push of a button.

Why would one need to change twice when technology has simplified things to this level?

Flowers are not just for centrepieces and bouquets. Now, fashion-forward brides are opting for painted floral wedding gowns as well as 3-D flower details. Wedding websites are also becoming a common phenomena in this digital age. But today’s couples are going the extra mile by hiring a web designer to create a beautiful, customised site.

The site may be updated live for the benefit of those who would be following the wedding from another location. This also makes easier for guests to access pictures professionally taken without waiting for days for the photographer to submit an album or CD.

Now more than ever, brides and grooms are using the big day to display their unique tastes and interests — whether it is by serving grandma’s special cake for dessert, asking a dear friend to officiate the ceremony or decorating the tables with centrepieces inspired by their favourite movie.

When it comes to food, we are tired of chicken, rice and coleslaw on weddings; it is now like a national anthem at every wedding.

Are there no other dishes besides rice? Be unique, do not be predictable!
