Feelings translate to words and words to reality and in the world of Soul Jah Love, the supreme word is – CONQUERING!

And it is word that came to life at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) ceremony where the musician became the first Zim dancehall artiste to land the prestigious award, in his case awards.

Before this year’s Zima re-birth, dancehall artistes that were dominated by the likes of Winky D, Major E, Booker T and Yombre were bracketed in the urban grooves category.

Soul Jah Love, real name Soul Musaka, scooped two accolades under the Best Dancehall Music and Best Male category.

To accomplish this feat, the Conquering Family boss had to shrug off competition from fellow dancehall artistes Shinsoman, Sniper Storm, Hebron Mash and Jimmy Wailer in the best Dancehall Music category.

For the Best Male award, the conquering lion’s roar scared away stagnating Jah Prayzah (who also walked away with two awards on the night), beating Shinsoman and Sniper and gospel musician Sabastian Magacha.

For Soul Jah Love, the winning song or formula if you like, was the anthem song “Ndini Uya Uya”.

By scooping the awards, he became the perfect yardstick for his Conquering Family stable which consists of ghetto youths aged from as young as 12 years.

Most of the youths have since decided to take music as a full-time career.

“I cannot explain what I’m feeling at the moment because I will be lying.

“Honestly I don’t know what I’m feeling. I never thought I would one day achieve this (awards).

“But I can say I’m happy because this is not just my achievement but also a yardstick to my youths in the Conquering Family,” said the ecstatic chanter.

The honour, Soul Jah Love said, had given him strength to implement some of the projects that he had put on hold in the past months.

Implementation of the new systems, he said, was going to propel him to dizzy heights and make competition even tougher for his rivals.

“I’m going to make a number of changes in my band. For instance, I will be introducing live instruments on my set and I will also set up a studio early next year.

“The group has a number of youngsters and I want them to have a stable life and shun negative things,” said Soul Jah Love.

“These plans have been in the pipeline for some time but with these awards I’m now going to set them in motion.

“I must continue doing more and setting standards so that my career blossoms.”

Accepting his awards, the charismatic chanter thanked fans for their loyalty and Zima organisers for reviving the noble ceremony.

Typical to the King of the forest style, the dancehall artiste stamped authority by boldly declaring that he was in the jungle to hunt and nothing was going to derail his mission.

The talented musician who also works with his wife Bounty Lisa has done a number of collaborations with fellow dancehall artistes like Cello Culture, Winky D and those from other genres namely Trevor Dongo and Zhetstar.

Soul Jah Love is popular for his free-style-flow.

The artiste boasts that he does not write down most of his compositions for the stage.
