Shot in the arm for Zim netball

THE Zimbabwe netball community has received a shot in the arm, as benefactor Aaron Chinhara looks to review his sponsorship package to the sport.

Speaking at the Inaugural end of year awards, Rainbow Amateur Netball League sponsor Aaron Chinhara said he will up sponsorship package from US$250 000 to US$500 000 next year.

“Glow Petroleum is a growing brand and during its growth it has recorded a lot of success in the corporate world.

“Now, we want to improve our corporate social responsibility goals,” said Chinhara.

 “Gone are the days when netballers would go for tournaments in public transport or they would play and then to go home with nothing to show for their efforts.

“In empowering the girl child and lobbying for her basic rights Glow Petroleum has moved with the motto, ‘Let s act today for a better tomorrow.

Chinhara said his sponsorship comes in a bid to empower the girl child, at national level through sport.

“Investing in the girl child has formidable ripple effects, “he said.

 “As part of our corporate social responsibility we joined hands with rainbow amateur league in February 2018 and grabbed the opportunity to increase our brand visibility by promoting this cause.

“As we approach the 2019 season, we want to continue the to empower the girl child with another donation of 250 000.

“This will our our total sponsorship package to US$500000, and with that I would like to implore everyone to help the girl child break the glass ceiling and raise above potential especially in the society that is dominated by patriarchy and long gone societal norms that regard the girls’ pursuit of sport as a taboo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Club champions Correctional Queens and their first and second runners’ up- Glow Petroleum and Platinum Queens- all collected their medals and prize money as the event closed the chapter on the inaugural Rainbow Amateur netball season.

Champions where honored with US$20 000 purse, while first and second runners up walked away with US$18 000 and US$14 000 respectively.
