In the past few weeks, merchants of doom have been out in full force.

Those with a penchant for sowing seeds of discord and enmity thought they had found an outlet for their divisive works.n the past few weeks, merchants of doom have been out in full force.

But these doom mongers have been left with egg on the face.

Introducing President Emmerson Mnangagwa to thousands of people at a Thank You Rally at Murombedzi growth point in Zvimba last weekend, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga exposed the lies and machinations by enemies of progress.

He shamed the regressive elements in our midst for their fabrications about animosity between him and President Mnangagwa.

The lie that all was not well between the President and one of his two deputies have been left without a leg to stand on.

VP Chiwenga said, “In all the coming elections, no one is going to remove Shumba Murambwi (President Mnangagwa). We are here until he feels it is the time to go and when we have fully restored our country to its former glory and when everything is in order.

“No one must dream of being the President. We want our country to prosper and it is time to move the country forward.

“It’s no longer time for bickering and politics. From here going forward, we are now talking of politics of development, of building the country and moving the country forward.”

The VP added: “Politics of child’s play will not help us in any way. Shumba Murambwi is there to stay because he is an anointed one from the King. Never ever dream that after so and so years it will be your time, there is no vacancy, there is nowhere to get in.

“Listen and listen very carefully. To those who were howling in these last days, keep quiet and keep quiet forever. We want to build a strong Zimbabwe that can move forward. There is nothing he has done wrong, the son from the Shumba clan.”

The message could not be any clearer.

The message also came out resoundingly that the shared vision of the executive is one of building a strong economy; it is the single biggest task at hand and one which all minds and hands must focus on.

Those spreading false allegations of divisions at the apex of are trying to distract the nation from directing all energies to the vision of President Mnangagwa’s Government, which is to create an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Upon seeing that the President is unwavering in his efforts to get the economy ticking again, some sections of society are now trying to create imaginary feuds in the hope of derailing progress.

They failed to stop President Mnangagwa from winning the July 2018 harmonised elections, and now they think they can stop him from implementing his economic agenda.

The Second Republic is not the place for the politics of patronage, endless fights and factionalism, and rumour mongering that characterised the previous regime.

That said, it is foolhardy to think some little people can sow seeds of division between President Mnangagwa and VP Chiwenga.

These two tried and tested revolutionaries have been through thick and thin together since the war of liberation in the 1970s.

They are cut from the same cloth, same ideology and conviction, which as young men led them to shelve their studies and play sterling roles in the Second Chimurenga.

These leaders are together from the Second Chimurenga to the Second Republic. They share the same vision of building a prosperous Zimbabwe.

So loyal is the VP to the President that we all saw what the former did when the latter was poisoned last year.

While the conspirators and conspiracy theorists may have succeeded with their divisive tactics during the days of the previous regime, this time they will find that the train does not stop for barking dogs. The reality is that the opposition and the private media that support them are in a state of panic because they cannot find a way to stop the march of progress that President Mnangagwa is leading from the front.

Zimbabweans want a better life and President Mnangagwa is leading his team in delivering exactly that.
