Seventh Day Adventist member Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko admires a gift from the church’s world president Dr Ted Wilson early this week
THE Seventh Day Adventist world leader, Dr Ted Wilson is in the country to oversee the church’s health programme aimed at providing free medical assistance to the local community. The health expo, which is worth $600 000, is running concurrently with the church’s Revelation of Hope Crusades. The programmes commenced last week at the Chitungwiza Town Centre and will spread to different parts of the country before closing curtains on May 30. The Sunday Mail Religion’s Desire Ncube caught up with Dr Wilson to discuss the health expo and Revelation of Hope Crusades. Here is what Dr Wilson had to say:
We are in Zimbabwe to reach out and spread the word of God to humanity. We brought a number of health practitioners as well to combine with our local partners.
We noted that if people are ailing, they can hardly receive the word of God. Thus as a church we decided to minister to people’s physical needs and at the same time reaching to their souls.
The health expo has received an overwhelming support and has been hailed by both the Government of Zimbabwe and its citizens.
The Adventist church is established in more than 210 countries and we have always been craving and trying to make our world church feel much part of a world family. This is one of the numerous reasons why we chose this great nation of Zimbabwe.
We appreciate the wonderful spirit and enthusiasm of our worldwide family of faith. And while we are all proud of our respective nations and cultures, I praise the Lord that there is a culture of Christ that bind us together and supersedes all others. This is the message we have brought to all Zimbabweans.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church is here to study the last book of the Bible and try to extract some hope from it.
This book appears to be confusing and hidden to many Christians. But it is not so as its name depicts. This is because it is the revelation of Christ.
As the world church who are heaven directed, this is the right time to unpack these messages for Christ is about to come. As the church we believe with all our hearts that Jesus is coming soon and we have to do his work hastily.
Signs of Christ’s coming are increasing in frequency and intensity.
Destructive events in nature, the great confusion of world politics, the deterioration of world economies, the disintegration of social and family values, rampant crime and moral decay, wars and rumours of war all point to the climax of earth’s history and the Lord’s return.
We have come with the good news of hope to the people of this beautiful nation, this message however is not only for Zimbabweans but for humanity.
What a blessing to know that amid the uncertainty of our future and the world around us we can find hope in the last book of the Bible.
Throughout the course of human history and against relentless attack, God has preserved His word. The Bible contains an accurate account of our origins, a reliable record of our salvation, and a glorious glimpse of our soon coming deliverance therefore as Christians we must not fear anything.
We rely wholly on the Bible and it is our lone source of our salvation. We do not obtain salvation through works, but through the grace of Christ.
Grace is the promise of God’s pardon and the provision of God’s power that is justification and sanctification. You cannot separate what Christ does for you that is justifying you daily as if you had not sinned from what he does in you. That is sanctifying you daily as you submit to Him and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to change your life to become more and more like Jesus.
Quoting from my favourite book Steps to Christ written by Ellen G White, “It is this marvellous, powerful, redeeming grace we have been called to proclaim to a sin-sick world. We have no ground for self exaltation.
Our only ground of hope is in the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and in what is wrought by His Spirit working in and through us.
