Sauvage Elixir…New classy fragrance envelopes local market

SINCE the first release back in 2015, Sauvage from the house of Dior has been one of the most prominent brands on the designer fragrance scene.

Having set the tone with the Eau de Toilette, which became an instant hit when it came out, Christian Dior has continued being a trendsetter.

It has churned out exquisite flankers, which include 2018’s Sauvage Eau De Parfum and the Dior Sauvage Parfum (2019).

Their latest release, Sauvage Elixir, is currently the most talked-about designer fragrance.

The fragrance hit local stores last week and is being sold in selected top outlets.

It is only available in 60ml bottles that cost not less than US$195 each.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a bottle and have been wearing it for the past days.

Having experienced the other two flankers, which had the same DNA as the original, I was a bit sceptical about the new product.

I thought this was going to be another twerked-up version of the previous releases.

I was wrong!

Dior has taken a totally different direction and this new scent is simply mind-blowing to say the least.

The nose behind this spicy, woody, aromatic creation is Francois Demachy, who is Dior’s in-house perfumer.

As for the note breakdown, it has cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and grapefruit at the top, the middle note is lavender, while base notes are licorice, sandalwood, amber, patchouli and Haitian vetiver.

“Sauvage Elixir is an extraordinarily concentrated fragrance steeped in the emblematic freshness of Sauvage with an intoxicating heart of spices, a ‘tailor-made’ Lavender essence and a blend of rich woods forming the signature of its powerful, lavish and captivating trail,” reads the description on the Dior website.

I can safely say the creators were not far off on it being highly concentrated.

It is a strong fragrance that lasts long and will definitely get you noticed by whoever you get close to.

Put simply, it pleasantly grabs attention.

While skin types differ and some might have a different take on the longevity of Elixir, I have been able to last the whole day on four sprays.

While the opening is really nice, I am finding myself enjoying the dry-down a bit more.

This is a fragrance that one can wear dressed up, going for an exquisite event or for a night out as it has that elegant type of vibe.

It can even be worn for a working setup as it is inoffensive despite its loud nature, but one will have to tone it down and probably go for two sprays.

Compared to its predecessors, Dior Sauvage Elixir is by far the best.

The creators should be credited for coming up with something unique rather than the ordinary Sauvage we have gotten used to.

The only gripe that I have with this release is the price point, which is certainly in niche fragrance territory.

But then, Elixir can easily hold its own if it was to be compared to some niche brands because it does smell expensive.
