Sanyati Rural District Council plans to spend the $171 million allocated by Treasury for its devolution programmes on water, healthcare and education infrastructure.
Last year, the district received $7,2 million, which fell short of the $19 million it had requested.
The RDC used part of the funds to fight the coronavirus.
High inflation during the first half of the year affected planned projects.
Sanyati RDC chief executive officer Mr Achim Shadaya said they intend to improve social services in the district.
“An allocation to the tune of $171 492 000 has been reserved for our council for the year 2021,” said Mr Shadaya.
“Once we receive the first disbursement, we will immediately implement the approved projects we have budgeted for.
“We are targeting the construction of four classroom blocks and two clinics in Wards 5 and 12.
“In view of the water challenges that our communities are facing, we also intend to procure a borehole drilling rig.”
Council, said Mr Shadaya, plans to acquire earth-moving equipment, including a grader, bulldozer, water bowser and four tractors for road maintenance. He said early disbursement of the funds was crucial.
“In 2020, we received a disbursement of $7,2 million, which was used for the upgrading our raw water pumping system and the water purification plant at Sanyati Growth Point.
“We also acquired two tipper trucks and rehabilitated Pazvakavambwa and Carfex clinics.”
The council, he added, intends to construct flea markets, market stalls and public toilets at Golden Valley and Sanyati growth points.
