Reshaping Zim transport system with Toda

Zimbabwe is moving towards embracing disruptive technologies that we cannot afford to ignore. Amongst these technologies is the impact of taxi e-hailing services in reshaping the old way of physically approaching a taxi driver and asking them to take you to the next destination.

While many other countries across the world had already embraced the e-hailing technology, Zimbabwe remained behind. One only had to have travelled abroad to understand the necessity of a taxi e-hailing service like Uber.

It is in this background that the Toda idea was born, driven by a passion to bring convenient, efficient and reliable transport solutions to everyone in and around Harare. The application integrates transportation needs for passengers and drivers onto a mobile technology platform to ensure efficient and reliable urban transport for all.

In an interview, Toda Operations Manager Mr Nyasha Shereni, said apart from being a user-friendly application, Toda boosts of enhanced security features.

“We’re committed to the safety of everyone using our platform, as Toda we have inbuilt security features to ensure the safety of our riders and drivers before, during and after every ride,” he said.

“Every driver goes through background check where we make sure that the driver is who they say they are.

The prospective driver will have to upload several personal and vehicle documents. We also require a police clearance just to check on the criminal background of our drivers.”

Mr Shereni also said all prospective Toda vehicles must go through a vehicle inspection process before drivers are activated on the system.

Being a new technology, it is important to note that simplicity and convenience sum up brand Toda as anyone with a smartphone can easily navigate through the platform.

In instances where you find yourself in need of an urgent ride, in the middle of the night and in an unfamiliar environment, a simple tap on your phone will get you a Toda Driver to your rescue.

Our mandate as Toda is to provide passengers and drivers with a reliable, affordable and safe travel option. Our average waiting time for passengers is 7 minutes and this system was designed to promote transparency as all rides are tracked in real time through the application.
