YOUTHS seem to have abandoned the principle of hard work and perseverance. It is abundantly clear that many youths are trapped in get-rich-quick schemes.

T

he love for luxury cars and lavish life has surely seen some youths opting for short-cuts to “make it”, even if it means sexual immorality.

Referring to the Scriptures, Joseph as a young man remained faithful to his tasks despite the discouraging conditions. He worked hard and served his father only to be betrayed by his brothers; he went on to serve Potiphar although he was betrayed by Potiphar’s wife; he then faithfully served in jail only to be forgotten by the butler.

His day finally came and was Prime Minister of Egypt. Therefore, youths should be diligent and stand for what is right for their day will come.

We also take the discussion on moving ancient landmarks forward.

Ecclesiastes 10:8 says, “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and who so breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.”

Proverbs 22:28 adds: “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” Many people have been scratching the surface of these verses.

Since we have previously talked about obedience to parents/life sources and slothfulness, we now shift focus on virginity and sexuality.

From a tender age we are encouraged by our elders to be men and women of virtue, particularly pertaining to sexuality. There are so many divergent views regarding how one ought to conduct himself.

Many are encouraged to express themselves or to explore their sexuality and discover themselves. Hence issues of masturbation are brought to the fore and pre-marital sex seem to the new normal.

In some situations others engage in homosexuality, while some youths enjoy multiple sex partners.

All this is happening yet we are all aware of the “hedge” and the “ancient landmark” that states no sex before marriage.

The Bible is clear on God’s standard on sexual purity. The Sixth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14)

The Almighty God was referring to all forms of sexual conduct outside His Word. I am not talking about people who have been abused sexually; if anyone reading this article is a victim, then my prayers go out for you.

To those who willingly break this hedge and move this landmark in their lives, when engaging in questionable sexual behaviour you are opening yourself up to negative things in your lives.

From a health perspective, one can contract a sexually transmitted infection or have an unplanned pregnancy.

If you are involved in unhealthy sexual practices, it weakens your testimony before God. Focus is affected negatively, prayer life and fellowship with God and other believers is shifted.

Pre-marital sex with multiple partners may result in youths failing to express love and affection to their spouses while others may fail to satisfy partners. Soul ties from past relationships can also cause marriage problems if one later gets married.

I am sure you must be asking yourself what can be done to go back on the same path with God. It’s not easy to live right but it can be done.

In all honesty it is for your own good. The best way forward is to repent and confess sins before God. Afterwards, then live a clean life through self-discipline.

Please invest time and energy to be virtuous women and men; preserve personal integrity and be morally upright. God is the helper, it shall be well with you. Till next week, God bless.
