Queen Elizabeth Students
An honorable day it was, with many special guests attending to see for themselves the great achievements of the Queen Elizabeth ladies.
The annual speech and prize giving day which was held at the close of last term was a great success. The ladies showcased their talents and left the guests completely satisfied and certain that no other school can match Queen Elizabeth School’s greatness.
To open up the promising ceremony, the QE Drummies matched in procession while escorting the staff together with the special guests to the hall where there was an exhibition which was centered on science and art.
The guests were truly amazed by the amount of talents that QE ladies exhibited. After the exhibition, the Drummies escorted the staff and the important guests to their seats and it was evident that they were in awe.
Once in the tents, the National anthem was sung melodiously before pastor Tavaziva officially opened the ceremony in prayer handing over the ceremony to the Almighty God. Five Queen Elizabeth ladies took the stage and welcomed the guests to the school. The welcoming sentiments were given in English, Shona, French, Chinese and Portuguese. Edutainment followed.
The chairman of the SDC of QE gave a very detailed report mainly focused on the SDCs achievements and what they aim to achieve. Among their achievements was the fencing of the hostels, painting of the interior and the exterior of the school, the replacement of black boards with white boards and the PURCHASING OF THE NEW BUS.
However the SDC still continues to shine as they showcase true leadership and aim to better the school by extending the computer block and replacing the old floors with tiles as soon as possible. Shortly after his report, guests were given a breather as they digested the progress of the school, while a few ladies sang a song called, “Tangai neni”.
The queen mother herself, the head of Queen Elizabeth, Dr Rayo, gave a report on the academic standpoint of the school. She highlighted the past years’ success in academics and stated how proud she was of the ladies as they continue to surprise with excellent results. After the speech there was a short entertainment break and Dr Rayo took the stage to give yet another report, but this time mainly focused on co-curricular achievements.
She made it known that the ladies not only excel in academics but also in co-curricular activities such as sports.
She went on to say that some of the QE ladies are not only representing QE and Harare but are also representing Zimbabwe.
There was a short break as guests pondered on Dr Rayo’s report. As they did so, entertainment was provided by the elegant QE ladies. Shortly after the entertainment, the guest of honor, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of the higher and tertiary education, Dr Utete Masango was introduced and she addressed the audience. Dr Masango introduced the new curriculum and she also stated that all students should learn to drive with effect from 2016. She went on to applaud the excellence of the school as she announced that Queen Elizabeth School would be receiving the award of the best girls’ high school in Zimbabwe.
Her speech left all those with daughters who are not learning at QE reconsidering their options as she stated that QE was among the first options when sending your daughters to high school.
As part of entertainment, the head girl of Queen Elizabeth School, Sharon Ndlovhu gave a speech, reviewing the year 2015 and how she worked together with the prefects’ body in maintaining order in the school. She also went on to advise the future leaders, specifically the future head girl.
However, the highlight of the day had to be the commissioning of the new school bus.
This was saved for last but it definitely was not least as students cheered on top of their voices for the bus.
It was said that the QE school bus is THE SECOND OF ITS KIND IN SOUTHERN AFRICA. After thaests as their attendance was greatly appreciated.
The day turned out to be better than anyone could have imagined and we trust that the guests left the school satisfied by the school’s excellence. Special thanks goes to all who attended and the QE ladies themselves for showcasing that they are truly queens.
