By definition, children’s rights are fundamental freedoms that apply to every child irrespective of their sex, race, abilities and social status.
With rights having been set aside, measures have to be taken in order to protect children’s rights and make them effective so that they are not only theoretical but also practical.y definition, children’s rights are fundamental freedoms that apply to every child irrespective of their sex, race, abilities and social status.

The Global Action Month therefore, has been designed to commemorate the rights of children. November has been set aside as the action month to commemorate and advocate for children’s rights.

In 2017 across the globe, activities are focusing on protecting the children from all forms of violence and exploitation.

Why commemorate children’s rights on such a day? The rights protect the minors from harmful practices that threaten their well-being. These include sexual, emotional, social as well as economic abuse.

Through children’s rights, there is less possibility of the children being victimised by social injustices such as child marriages, and other forms of violence and exploitation.

I therefore encourage my fellow peers to participate in such a commemoration and be heard this November. Be heard; Speak out Memeza, Taura and Act Against Violence and Exploitation.
