GOVERNMENT has completed construction of 15 of the targeted 17 modern schools in rural provinces and wants to complete 45 more similar learning institutions next year.

The 17 schools are being constructed under a US$20 million grant secured by Government from the OPEC Fund International for Development (OFID) in 2015. Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister, Edgar Moyo, said fifteen of the 17 schools were complete and are now awaiting some fittings and furniture. The other two, he said, are 90 percent complete and now need plastering and flooring.

“There have been delays in the procurement process, but now the process has started and it is at an advanced stage. Once we are done, we will be commissioning these schools soon,” said Minister Moyo.

Deputy Minister Moyo said the new schools had a touch of modernity to match international standards.
