President Mnangagwa has mourned former Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki who died on Friday at the age of 90.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was supposed to officiate at this week’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, has had to cancel his trip as a result.
Former president Kibaki was Kenya’s Head of State from 2002 to 2013.
At yesterday’s ZANU PF rally in Epworth, Harare, President Mnangagwa observed a moment of silence in honour of Kenya’s third president.
“We have the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and we had invited Uhuru Kenyatta, the Kenyan President.
“However, we received news that his predecessor Mwai Kibaki died last night (Friday). Today, President Kenyatta sent me a message that he is no longer able to make the trip.
“He was supposed to come to Zimbabwe for a State visit and later go to Ghana,” said President Mnangagwa.
Writing on his official Twitter account, President Mnangagwa described former president Kibaki as a champion of economic emancipation.
“My sincere condolences to the people of Kenya and to the family of President Kibaki. His dedication to the economic transformation of Kenya will be remembered for many generations. The people of Zimbabwe stand with Kenya during this time,” wrote President Mnangagwa.
